Head has been manufacturing tennis racquets since the 1960’s. Arthur Ashe and his Head tennis racquet defeated Jimmy Conners at Wimbledon in 1975, since then, Head has been a household name for all avid tennis players. Since Arthur Ashe, dozens of top tennis pros have used a Head tennis racket to master the game of tennis. Among those pros are Andre Agassi, Maria Sharapova, Andy Murray, Marin Cilic, Novak Djokovic and many more. Head continues to be a leader of introducing new materials that revolutionize tennis. The company was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1950 by aeronautical engineer Howard Head, after he took a ski trip and was astonished to see his skis were made of wood in an era when metals and plastics were replacing wood in many product designs. Head Ski Company includes parts of several previously independent companies, including Head Ski Company, founded in Delaware in 1950 and Tyrolia, an Austria ski-equipment manufacturer. Head Skis produced one of the first successful metal-wood composite downhill skis, the Head Standard.
